Hey guys, welcome to my monthly internet business report where I share my progress towards reaching my current business goal of 1 million dollars in yearly revenue by age 30 (I’m 27 now) with various internet marketing & business strategies to help you along your own entrepreneurial journey.
Take advantage of these reports to learn from my successes and failures so you can create better and faster results in your own businesses.
In these monthly updates I also include any noteworthy changes or things I implemented during the past month that led to better (or worse) results, as well as any important business/marketing/success lessons or strategies I learned that you may find helpful in some way.
Changes to These Reports
Firstly just a quick heads up that starting this month there will be a few changes to these reports.
- Firstly, I’ve had a few people email me over the past few weeks asking for more details of my websites such as traffic numbers, screenshots, etc. I’ve taken your feedback on-board and from now on I’ll be going deeper with these reports and including more detail to hopefully make them more valuable to you all.
- Secondly, starting this month I’ll now be reporting all amounts in USD instead of in my local currency (which was AUD: Australian Dollars). The reason for this change is because I don’t want to cause any confusion because from now on I’ll be sharing direct income screenshots in these reports (which in most cases are shown in USD). Plus, a large number of my regular readers are in the US so it makes sense.
- Lastly, I’ve changed the overall premise of these monthly updates from basic income reports to monthly updates on my exact progress towards reaching the $1,000,000 per year mark with my businesses. I’m sticking my neck out by doing so, but I just want to be as open and transparent as possible with you all. If I “fail”, it just means I have more to learn and more work to do so either way I’ll be happy (plus there’s more to life than money, this isn’t my ONLY goal).
So with that said, let’s get straight into the results for this past month of August!
August 2015 Revenue
|Niche Site A||Electronics/Computers||$6613.78 USD (down 541.23 from last month)|
|Niche Site B||Health/Fitness||$6.09 USD (down 3.97 from last month)|
|Niche Site C||Electronics/Computers||$153.79 USD (up 42.10 from last month)|
|PDR||Internet Marketing/Business||$150 USD (up 150.00 from last month)|
|TOTAL||$6,923.66 USD (down 353.10 from last month)|
Not a bad month overall in terms of the numbers. Traffic and income was down a little for my best performing site, Niche Site A, but fluctuations are to be expected from month to month. There’s no guarantees when it comes to business so you learn to live with the uncertainty.
What I’m happy about is that my online income is slowly becoming more diversified as my other sites start earning decent amounts. Diversifying your income streams online is very important in my opinion; you don’t want to put all your eggs in the one basket.
Ok, let’s get into each business individually if you want to learn more about how I’m actually making this money.
Niche Site A
|Monetization Model/s:||Affiliate Marketing, Google Adsense|
- Amazon Affiliate Commissions: $6,543.95
- Google Adsense: $69.83
The income from this site is mostly passive income, meaning it practically runs by itself. I spend on average around 3-5 hours per month updating the site as the niche is one that is constantly changing.
If I’m creating new content for the site, which I occasionally still do to keep improving the site (and something that search engines generally love – leave a site dormant for too long and it’ll likely start to drop), then it could be something like 5-10 hours work per month (even up to 15+ if I’m making big changes to the site).
I know people love income screenshots to make this all seem more real, so here’s the Amazon affiliate income from Niche Site A for August:
As you can see I generated over $160,000 worth of sales for Amazon in August, resulting in $6,543.95 in commissions. Not the biggest commission percentage, but Amazon converts pretty well because people trust them.
Amazon affiliate commissions makes up the bulk of my overall internet income at the moment, and I know of many other people making a living solely from Amazon affiliate commissions – there is tons of potential with this.
It’s a great strategy if you have decent traffic, and even better if your niche has higher priced products within it. Sure, you can still do well in niches that have lower-priced items, but you’ll need more traffic to do well.
Here are the traffic stats for Niche Site A in August:
Niche Site B
|Monetization Model/s:||Affiliate Marketing, Google Adsense|
- Affiliate Commissions: $1.27
- Google Adsense: $4.82
This is the second site that I started and I haven’t worked on it in a long time hence why it hardly earns much these days. It used to earn a few hundred dollars per month but because I stopped working on it it’s gone downhill.
The lesson here is that you generally cannot just leave a site for months or even years without touching it otherwise it will slip. I’m still deciding whether or not to allocate time to revive the site, or to just forget about it because I have more promising projects to work on.
It still occasionally has a little burst in income though, so that’s why I keep it up even though it sometimes loses money as it did this month. Plus, the content still helps some people out.
Niche Site C
|Monetization Model/s:||Affiliate Marketing|
- Amazon Affiliate Commissions: $153.79
This is my latest site and things are looking great for this one. Income is slowly rising month by month since I started monetizing it, and traffic is on the up too. Here’s the Amazon affiliate income it earned in August:
And this is the traffic growth from day one of starting the site which looks promising:
As you can see it takes for a new site to start ranking in the search engines and receive traffic. But if you stick with it and keep producing good content (and doing everything else right such as keyword and market research, marketing, design, etc) then eventually your traffic will start to grow faster and faster.
My plan with this site is to keep growing it and eventually earn a few thousand dollars per month in passive income with it.
Everything I’ve done to plan, create, and grow this site I reveal in my Ultimate Guide to Building a Profitable Niche Content Website. In that guide I leave nothing on the table and pretty much tell all.
Right now I have 3 niche sites, but I have more planned because I have so many ideas for new sites. The great thing is, once you build one site and you see some results, building another becomes a lot easier. Thinking up good ideas and seeing opportunities because a whole lot easier too, so if you’re stuck on your first site then just keep at it – it gets better.
PDR (Project Digital Rise)
|Monetization Model/s:||Affiliate Marketing, Digital Products|
- Affiliate Commissions:
- Long Tail Pro: $150 (keyword research software I recommend)
I’m steadily growing this blog slowly but surely, but anything I earn from it right now is a bonus to me as my focus with this blog for now is to just help as many of you guys either start your first profitable website or grow an existing one.
It was nice to see a little income coming in for last month though. But as always my priority is growing my other businesses, and my new projects that I currently have in the works.
In August I published two blog posts as well as making some minor changes to the blog here and there:
- How to Plan Your Niche Site Structure and Pick Good Keywords
- My Monthly Internet Business Income Report: July 2015
I also started a new Instagram page for the blog where I’ll be sharing some behind the scenes content about my journey, my favorite quotes, updates on all new blog posts, and more. Follow me there if you’re on the platform.
I’m still working on my physical products business via Amazon FBA on the side, and whilst there’s nothing to report here yet I’m still including this section here because it will likely become a significant part of my overall online strategy moving forward.
Selling on Amazon is a huge online opportunity right now especially because of just how fast Amazon is growing and that’s why I’m willing to get into this business on top of all of the other projects I have. In my opinion it’s just too great of a opportunity to pass up. Stay tuned for more soon.
By the way, the course I’m going through to learn this (good luck trying to teach yourself) is the Amazing Selling Machine which so far has been great! I’m likely attending their live training event in November – so if any of you are attending then I’ll see you there hopefully!
Total Profit & Thoughts On August
Total Revenue ($6,923.66) – Total Expenses ($81.94)
= $6,834.46 USD Profit
As I said earlier, starting this month I’ll be reporting all numbers in these reports in USD instead of AUD (Australian Dollar), so they will look quite a bit smaller compared to last month which I reported in AUD (Australian Dollar). AUD works out a lot more than USD, so this month’s total profit of $6834.46 actually works to be over 9000 in my pocket.
Yup, you can guess that I’m real thankful for earning in USD whilst living in Australia! The difference in currency is massive right now (roughly 1.4 aussie dollars for every 1 US dollar…craziness!).
It was another busy month for me, with not only getting quite a bit done across 4 of my 5 current projects, but a whole heap of traveling around the US for the very first time, exploring new cities, seeing various speakers in different fields such as health, business, and self development, all while trying to juggle that thing called life AND maintain my daily routines/habits (I have quite a few).
Yeah, call me a little crazy, but I feel that there’s no better time than now to be running around like a headless chicken and really pushing myself to get as much done as possible across all fronts whilst my energy, drive and creativity is perhaps the highest it’ll ever be. But to be honest, I love it and wouldn’t have it any other way.
I see my twenties as “prime hustle time” (ha, as corny as that sounds) where I’m laying the foundation for the future. As the great saying goes, “the best way to predict the future is to create it”.
My plan, which has been modeled after many others who have gone before me, is to really push myself now so that I can eventually adjust to a more even work-life balance later on.
Don’t get me wrong – you gotta enjoy life as much as you can. But I think that it’s absolutely crucial to sacrifice a little now if you truly want to get ahead and achieve something worthwhile.
That doesn’t just apply if you’re aiming to make a million dollars like I am – no matter what your goal is with internet marketing and business, you have to hustle quite aggressively for it. There is no other way, good things don’t just land in your lap.
It’s a competitive game – who doesn’t want to make money online, right?
So my belief is that you gotta sacrifice certain things now, for better things later. Whilst this applies to practically any area of life, it’s especially relevant to building an online business because you typically won’t see the fruits of your labor until way later down the track.
For example, if you’re starting a new content site or blog you generally won’t see any significant traffic (or income) come in for AT LEAST a few months (even if you use paid traffic it’ll take you quite a while to get results). You have to be willing to sacrifice the time and effort to build up your new business without seeing anything in return for your work.
A fitting quote that comes to mind is:
Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.
I have no idea who said that first, but it’s a solid one.
That’s it for this month’s report, I hope you can take something out of this moving forward.
If you have anything to add, whether it be questions, suggestions to improve these reports, or any general thoughts – I’d love to hear from you.
Either leave a comment below or shoot me an email to chat 1 on 1. I’ll try my best to get back to you as soon as I can.
Cheers. Now get back to the hustle 🙂
